Incident Reporting

Incident Reporting

Truck Me replaces trucking Facebook groups with built-in, real-time incident reporting. Drivers report hazards, and every other Truck Me user on nearby routes gets alerted.

Reporting an Incident

Two ways to report:

Quick Report

  1. Tap the report button (lightning bolt) on the map screen.
  2. Select a category, Road Closure, Accident, Hazard, Police, Rest Area, Other.
  3. Confirm location, defaults to your current position. Drag to adjust.
  4. Submit, the report goes live immediately.

Quick reports take under 5 seconds. Use them while stopped at lights or rest areas.

Detailed Report

  1. Tap and hold the report button to open the detailed form.
  2. Select category and subcategory (e.g. Hazard → Debris, Animal, Flood).
  3. Add details, free-text description of what you saw.
  4. Set direction, specify which direction of travel is affected.
  5. Attach a photo, optional, from camera or gallery.
  6. Submit, the report goes live with full details.

Incident Types

CategoryExamples
Road ClosureFull closure, lane closure, detour
AccidentMulti-vehicle, single vehicle, rollover
HazardDebris, animal on road, flooding, fallen tree
PoliceCheckpoint, speed camera, RBT
Rest AreaFull, closed, facilities status

Confirmations & Dismissals

When you pass an incident reported by another driver:

  • Tap "Still there" to confirm the incident is active. This boosts its visibility and extends its lifespan.
  • Tap "Gone" to report it's cleared. Enough "gone" votes auto-expire the incident.

This crowd-sourced verification keeps the map accurate.

Incident Alerts

When an active incident is on or near your route:

  1. Map marker, appears on the map with the incident icon.
  2. Audio alert, plays a warning sound (configurable in Settings).
  3. Banner notification, shows incident type and distance.

Auto-Expiry

Incidents don't stay forever. Truck Me automatically expires reports based on:

  • Category defaults, accidents expire after 4 hours, hazards after 2 hours, police after 1 hour.
  • Community votes, enough "gone" votes expire an incident early.
  • No confirmations, incidents with zero confirmations after 30 minutes are deprioritised.

Rerouting

When a road closure or major incident blocks your route, Truck Me offers a one-tap reroute that finds an alternative path on approved roads.
