Frustrated with Truckwiz? You Are Not Alone.
Australian truck drivers need routing that works with the NHVR heavy vehicle network, bridge warnings before it is too late, and an app that stays running through a phone call. Truck Me was built to solve each of these problems specifically.
What drivers are reporting about Truckwiz
Truckwiz averages 2.8 stars on Google Play across approximately 10,000 downloads. The public review record shows four recurring patterns.
Payment and account access failures
A consistent pattern in the review data is drivers paying for a subscription and then being unable to access maps or features they paid for. This is one of the most frequently cited complaints by category.
App crashes and overheating
Drivers report the app crashing or the phone overheating within minutes of active navigation. This is a known issue with apps built on React Native doing sustained GPU-intensive map rendering without native optimisation.
Routing on non-approved roads
Drivers report being routed onto roads that are not approved for their vehicle type. Operating a heavy vehicle on a non-approved road is a compliance breach. Fines start above $6,000 and can lead to vehicle impoundment.
Bridge warnings after the hazard
Drivers report bridge clearance warnings arriving too late to take an alternate route. Once a loaded heavy vehicle is committed to a road with an undersize bridge, there may be no safe way to turn around.
Truck Me vs Truckwiz: feature by feature

What Australian truck navigation should do
Every feature in Truck Me addresses a specific gap in what is currently available to Australian heavy vehicle drivers.
Direct NHVR API routing
Routes calculated against the NHVR heavy vehicle network for your exact vehicle class. The same data source that defines which roads are legally approved.
Two-stage bridge warnings
Stage 1 warning fires before you turn onto the road. Stage 2 fires at 500m from the structure. You know about the clearance issue before you are committed.
Offline maps by state
Download base maps and NHVR overlay by state before you leave mobile coverage. Works with zero signal for outback Queensland, WA, and NT runs.
Community incident reporting
Real-time incident pins from other drivers on the map. Two taps to report an accident, closure, flood, or roadworks. Visible to all drivers immediately.
Vehicle class selection
Select B-Double, Road Train, PBS vehicle, semi-trailer, or rigid. The approved network changes based on your combination. Not a generic truck mode.
Driver logbook built in
Three tiers: off, reminders at trip start and end, or full tracking with odometer, rest breaks, and exportable trip logs in CSV or PDF.
Built for sustained map rendering
Truck Me is built in Flutter, which compiles to native code on both iOS and Android. There is no JavaScript bridge between the app logic and the device hardware. This is relevant because GPS navigation is one of the most GPU-intensive tasks a phone can do, and apps built on JavaScript bridges are more prone to frame drops, overheating, and crashes under that load.
The route stays active through phone calls, screen lock, and app backgrounding. Background GPS and route state persistence are not optional features. They are engineering requirements.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Truck Me free?
Yes, Truck Me has a free tier that includes 5 route calculations per day and basic NHVR map overlay. Pro unlocks unlimited routing, all vehicle types, offline maps, and full logbook. Fleet plans are available for operators with multiple drivers.
Does Truck Me work on Android?
Yes. Truck Me is available on both Android and iOS. It is built in Flutter, which compiles natively on both platforms, which is one reason it does not overheat or crash under sustained map rendering load.
Can I import my saved routes from Truckwiz?
There is no direct import from Truckwiz. However, Truck Me lets you save any route you calculate as a named saved route. Routes are monitored for NHVR network changes, and you are alerted if the access status of a road on your saved route changes.
Why do drivers report problems with Truckwiz?
Based on publicly available Play Store reviews, common complaints fall into four categories: payment processing failures where drivers pay but cannot access maps, app crashes and phone overheating during use, routes sent to roads not approved for the driver's vehicle type, and bridge warnings arriving too late to take an alternate route. These are documented patterns in the review data, not isolated incidents.
